Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 16, 2026
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how UnityMap ("we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use unitymap.org and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Account information. Name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash), or your Google account profile if you sign in with Google.
Business and listing information. Business name, description, address, phone number, website, category, and any photo you upload. This information is intended to be displayed publicly on community maps.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep records of transactions (amount, status, receipt links) tied to your listings.
Usage and security data. IP address, browser and device information, session activity, and security events (such as failed sign-in attempts). We use this to keep accounts safe and operate the Service reliably.
Community map requests. If you ask us to set up a map for your community, we keep what you submit on that form — your name, email address, and optionally your phone number, your role at the organization, and any notes — so we can reply and follow up. Submitting the form does not create an account.
Display measurement. Community TV displays record how many seconds each listing spends on screen, and an identifier for each screen so we can tell one display from another. This is measurement of our own screens, not of the people near them: we collect nothing about viewers, and the identifier belongs to the display, not to a person.
Site analytics. When you visit our pages, we record which pages you view, how you arrived (for example, a QR code on a community display or poster, a link we posted, or the website that linked to us), your device type, browser, time zone and language, how long a page stays open, and taps on a business's call, directions or website links. A random identifier kept in your browser lets us count returning visitors without knowing who you are. These records don't include your IP address, and we don't use them to follow you across other websites.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide the Service — display community maps, listings, and dashboards;
- To process payments and manage subscriptions and renewals;
- To send transactional emails (verification, receipts, renewal and expiry notices);
- To secure accounts, prevent fraud, and monitor for abuse;
- To report to advertisers how their listings performed — for example, how long a listing was on screen on community displays, and how many people viewed it or tapped to call or get directions;
- To understand how people find and use the Service, such as which QR codes and posts bring visitors;
- To respond to community map requests and other messages you send us;
- To improve the Service and fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. What Is Public
Community map pages are public. Business information in an active listing — including the business name, description, address, phone, website, and photo — is visible to anyone who visits the community map. Your account email and payment history are never shown publicly.
5. Service Providers
We share information with the vendors that run the Service:
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing;
- Convex — application database and file storage;
- Cloudflare — website hosting and delivery, and the Turnstile anti-bot check on our sign-up and request forms, which receives a challenge token and your IP address;
- Mapbox — map rendering and driving directions;
- Resend — delivery of our transactional email, which receives your email address;
- Google — optional sign-in with Google.
Each provider receives only the data it needs to perform its function and is bound by its own privacy commitments.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account and business data while your account is active. Expired sessions, error logs, security alerts, and similar operational records are deleted automatically on rolling schedules, typically within 7–90 days. Site analytics records are deleted after 120 days; the daily totals made from them are kept for about 13 months. Administrative audit records, which log changes made to accounts and listings, are kept for up to one year and then deleted. Transaction records are retained as required for accounting and legal purposes. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
7. Cookies and Sessions
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to secure your session. Our site analytics keeps a random visitor identifier in your browser's local storage, used only by UnityMap. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
8. Your Rights
You can access and update your account and business information from your dashboard at any time. You may request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and as required by applicable law.
9. Children
The Service is for businesses and community organizations. Our Terms of Service require account holders to be at least 18, the Service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service before they take effect.
