Terms of Service
Effective date: July 26, 2026
1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of UnityMap ("UnityMap," "we," "us"), including the website at unitymap.org, community map pages, dashboards, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. The Service
UnityMap operates interactive community maps that showcase local businesses, and lets businesses purchase listings that appear on those maps. Community map pages are publicly visible. Listing content you provide — including business details and photos — will be displayed publicly on the community map you choose.
Community maps are created and configured by UnityMap. Organizations that want a map can request one; submitting a request does not create an account or entitle you to a map. Once a map exists, UnityMap may appoint an administrator from that organization to manage it.
A business profile is separate from the maps it appears on. Before a business can publish or pay for a listing on a given community map, that community's administrator must approve the business for that community, and approval may be declined or withdrawn.
3. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 years old and authorized to act on behalf of the business or organization you represent.
4. Listings, Payments, and Auto-Renewal
Business listings are paid placements that run for a fixed duration, in the tier you select, plus any optional add-ons you choose. Each community sets its own prices, tier availability, and number of slots, so the figures on our pricing page are defaults and may differ from what your community charges. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay. All payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details.
Premium tiers and some add-ons are limited to a set number of slots per community. A slot is only yours once payment succeeds, and we may release a reserved slot if checkout is not completed.
Listings renew automatically. When you purchase a listing, you authorize us (through Stripe) to charge your saved payment method every 30 days until you cancel. Renewals are charged at the price agreed when you bought the listing, so a later change to your community's pricing does not change what you are charged. You can cancel auto-renewal at any time from your listing page in the dashboard. After cancellation, your listing remains active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and no further charges are made.
When a listing expires, it is removed from the community map; your account and business profile are retained.
Except as described in Sections 8 and 9, or where required by law, payments are non-refundable once a listing has gone live. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us and we will review it in good faith.
5. Your Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit. By submitting content, you grant UnityMap a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute it as needed to operate the Service (for example, showing your photos on a community map). You represent that you have the rights to all content you upload and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
You agree not to upload content that is unlawful, misleading, infringing, or harmful.
6. Copyright and Takedown Requests
We respect copyright and will remove infringing material. If you believe content on UnityMap infringes a copyright you own or control, send a notice to support@unitymap.org that includes:
- Your name, address, phone number, and email address;
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed;
- A link to, or description sufficient to locate, the material you want removed (for example, the community map page and the business name);
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf;
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We will remove or disable access to material that is the subject of a valid notice, and we may notify the account that posted it. If you believe your content was removed in error, you may send a counter-notice to the same address with equivalent detail. We may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly infringe.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Misrepresent your business, location, or affiliation with a community;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure;
- Attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours;
- Use the Service to send spam or engage in fraudulent activity.
8. Community Administrators
Community administrators may approve or decline businesses for their community, and may review, feature, suspend, or remove business listings within their community at their discretion. They also set pricing and slot availability for their map. UnityMap may suspend or remove any account, community, or listing that violates these Terms.
If a listing you have paid for is suspended or removed for reasons other than your breach of these Terms — for example, a community stops using UnityMap — we will refund the unused portion of that listing.
9. Cancellation, Suspension, and Deleting Your Account
You may stop using the Service at any time. You can cancel auto-renewal from your listing page, and you can ask us to delete your account and associated data by emailing support@unitymap.org. Deleting your account ends any active listings; we do not refund the unused portion of a listing you choose to end early.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or its users. Where we terminate without cause, we will refund the unused portion of any listing you have paid for. Sections covering your content license (to the extent needed to remove it), disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law survive termination.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee any particular level of visibility, traffic, or business results from a listing. Map data, driving routes, and travel times are estimates provided by third-party services and may be inaccurate.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, UnityMap will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue. Our total liability for any claim arising out of the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. You and UnityMap agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Michigan.
14. General
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and UnityMap regarding the Service, and replace any earlier version. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, employment, or agency relationship between you and UnityMap.
